Ether

The original typeface was found on the Northwest Arkansas Times Newspaper, dating back to 1907. This was a very traditional gothic font that is very likely found on official documents: marriage licenses, legal documents, land deeds, manuscripts, etc. Therefore, over time this style of typeface has developed an overarching androgynous feel, molding to every viewer it encounters allowing them to feel that sense of importance.

My goal in this project was to bring back these traditional attributes that make the gothic style so appealing. Overall, the typeface that I created has a bulky but elegant feeling to it. Still representing the typeface on the Northwest Arkansas Times but highlighting the versatility it can have. Ether is here to make a statement!

*Ether regards the space above the clouds. This name references how people have the capacity to take up space- especially within words.
